Overview

The University of Louisville Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to assist our Housestaff with inpatient care at both ULH and Norton Hospital Downtown.  Our inpatient population is mostly comprised of oncology patients, but also includes trauma patients, pediatric patients, as well as other Otolaryngology patients.  Daily responsibilities will include patient and family education on topics such as wound care, nutritional support, and care coordination.  There are opportunities for participation in the Operating Room, development of an outpatient practice as well as participation in clinical research depending on the interests of the candidate.

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic studies for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood tests, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies and therapeutic measures.
  • Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
  • Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary conference and ensures appropriate, quality care.
  • Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
  • Assist with admissions and timely discharge of patients.
  • Works both collaboratively and independently.
  • Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel.
  • Documents and reports care in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Works effectively with others. Collaborates with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Rounding with the inpatient team.
  • Maintains professional certification in specialty area; attends and participates in national, regional, and/or local educational conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master of Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure in state of Kentucky as an APRN.
  • National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction
  • Current BLS
