About the Unit

Neuro ICU is a 10-bed neurological ICU providing intensive management to patients with life-threatening neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Cases typically seen in this practice area include central nervous system tumors, complex spine surgery, acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, endovascular interventions, neuromuscular diseases, status epilepticus, and central nervous system infections.

Job Summary

The charge nurse assists the Clinical Manager and/or Nursing Director with the management of the unit including participating in employee evaluation, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments, oversight of resource utilization, and initiating and overseeing quality improvement activities.  The charge nurse acts as a resource and provides information/education to unit staff.  The charge nurse is involved in service recovery, promoting customer service to both internal and external customers.  The charge nurse is a role model and proponent of the professional nurse as exemplified by their presence on the unit, participation in nursing department initiatives such as the acquisition of Magnet Certification, and organizational committee meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed or eligible for license in Kentucky
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Associate’s degree from accredited college or University

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or University
