About Us

UofL Health - Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital which has served generations of patients in south Louisville. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1874, the hospital offers a full range of vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative and 24/7 emergency services including 24/7 STEMI service.

Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is home to UofL Health – Weight Loss Care, the region’s only weight-loss management program utilizing the Lap-Band® System. In addition, the hospital provides the Orbera® gastric balloon procedure. The hospital has been recognized as one of the first health care facilities in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction® Center for bariatric surgery.

The hospital partnered with sister facility, UofL Health – Peace Hospital to open a voluntary inpatient medical detox unit at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital to care for patients with substance use disorders. Most recently, Cancer & Blood Specialists, located adjacent to the Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus, became the third location of UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center. At the center, patients will have continuity of care with trusted oncology and hematology providers, along with access to multidisciplinary care, pioneering research, and clinical trials of the Brown Cancer Center. In addition to the hospital, Mary & Elizabeth has three medical plazas on its campus to provide office space for a wide array of primary care and specialty physicians.

Job Summary

The Clinical Assistant provides clinical patient care support in a caring, safe, and efficient manner, under the supervision and delegation of the Registered Nurse. In collaboration with patients and families (as defined by the patient) the Clinical Assistant is responsible for the care of the patient. The Clinical Assistant adheres to and is supportive of the hospital and the department of Nursing mission and philosophy.

  • Delivers successful service to our internal and external customers by adhering to critical success standards: demonstrating accountability and commitment to quality and safety standards; providing exceptional customer service; and exerting effort to ensure a positive work environment that demonstrates dedication to the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Performs delegated nursing skills, including but not limited to, activities of daily living, monitoring of patient condition, body mechanics, providing nutritional support and other activities as appropriate to clinical service, in accordance with hospital standards, nursing standards of care, and policies and procedures.
  • May perform skills, within scope of practice for unlicensed assistive personnel. These skills include, but are not limited to, the collection of specimens, use of specialized equipment, restraint monitoring and patient elimination procedures. Communicates performance of these skills to the patient’s Registered Nurse and other members of the healthcare team
  • Performs functional assignments per unit standards of care, including such activities as patient admission and discharge procedures, unit environmental organizational tasks, and others as appropriate to service.
  • Performs and documents point-of-care testing, patient mobility and exercise, comfort, rest, sleep and care needs, patient hygiene, grooming, dressing, skincare, dietary, toileting and elimination needs.
  • Assists with transport.
  • Performs clerical duties; use of a fax machine, computers, medical transcription, telephone, and copy machines may be required
    Demonstrates appropriate emergency and patient safety procedures, including management of safety devices and equipment.  Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Participates in training, development, and continuing education activities to improve role functioning Responsible for knowing and demonstrating National Patient Safety standards.  Participates in department-based activities and initiatives to improve and ensure a safe environment.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.
  • Communicates effectively with members of the health care team, patients, and families, often under stress or emergency situations.
  • Assists other members of the nursing care team and/or other disciplines.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare setting
  • State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) by the Kentucky Board of Nursing
