Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The RN-Clinician Oncology Triage is a licensed professional who provides evidence-based care to adult and geriatric patients during all phases of their oncology treatment. This RN works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient centered care utilizing an in-depth knowledge of oncology disease states, treatment, and critical thinking skills.  The RN-Clinician Oncology Triage will provide nursing assessments, prioritize treatments according to the urgency of need, and initiate medical advice/care to patients that call in to the triage line for support for the patient’s cancer care. This RN will follow-up with patients after they have called the triage line to make sure that adequate care was given. The RN will communicate to clinic, treatment areas on patient care for symptoms management, urgent issues, and concerns. RN-Clinician Oncology Triage will also help set up appointments to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • All new-hire ADN nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire.
  • Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider card

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
  • ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN and/or CBCN) preferred upon hire.  Encouraged to obtain certification within 2 years of hire.  If not able to meet these requirements the employee must have 12 CEUs on the subject of oncology to remain competent.
  • Three years of oncology patient care experience
