Job Summary

 The Sterile Processing Assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: pick-up and delivery of all reusable items to using areas. Packing and delivery of case carts, restocking supplies, and crediting supply returns to SPD. Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Health, JCAHO, OSHA, AAMI, AORN and CDC.

Responsibilities


1. Effectively communicate with co-workers and all other hospital personnel. Able to write routine reports and correspondence; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

2. Answer telephone promptly and assist caller with obtaining items needed.

3. Make rounds throughout the hospital and Brown Cancer Center to deliver sterile and non-sterile instrumentation, supplies and equipment, and to pick-up contaminated or credit instrumentation, supplies and equipment.

4. Deliver scheduled case carts to the Surgery Department.

5. Assemble supplies and place into case carts for scheduled and non-scheduled procedures.

6. Inventory, and deliver back-up case carts to the Surgery Department, Labor & Delivery, and critical care nursing areas.

7. Credit all supply items returned unused and with undamaged packaging.

8. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.

9. Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect regardless of their status or position

10. Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potential unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly

11. Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; sets goal and objectives; Develops realistic action plans.

Qualifications

Education & Training:  High School graduate or GED required

 

Experience:  One year previous experience in a healthcare setting in a clinical capacity preferred

 

License & Certification:  None
