Responsibilities

Job Summary

 

A Lactation Consultant in this institution will help breastfeeding mothers in the inpatient and outpatient settings.  The Lactation Consultant will also educate the mother and staff regarding updated lactation practices.  The Lactation Consultant will maintain competency and application of the scientific knowledge necessary to meet patient needs.  The Lactation Consultant demonstrates, through organizational skills, the ability to provide ease in flow of work.  The Lactation Consultant is knowledgeable and supportive of the hospital, department, and nursing unit philosophies.

  • Neonatal ICU
  • Antenatal Education
  • Outpatient Services

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Active Kentucky registered nurse license or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky
  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC)
  • Minimum of 3 years of patient care experience in the OB nursery complex. Must be knowledgeable in current standards for lactation management and have recent experience working with mothers and infants who are breastfeeding.

  • All new-hire Associate degree registered nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • International Board Ceritifed Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or must obtain within one (1) year of hire
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
