About Us

UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center Downtown location has 44 chemo chairs, 11 private rooms and four beds to provide chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We treat all solid organ and hematologic cancers.  Our physicians are experts in specfic disease sites allowing them to better understand the challenges our patients face. Our patients are seen in a multi-disciplinary care model resulting in our patients normally being seen by multiple physicians on their first visit and possibly recieve an infusion the same day.  The innovation and reseach at the Brown Cancer is top notch with patients being offered clinicial research trials for new treatment modalies. Our cancer outreach program has allowed us to educate, screen and provide medical services in surrounding rural communities. 

We have a beautiful bone marrow cellular therapy (BCT) outpatient clinic with inpatient capaibilities in UoL Hospital.

Our onsite Radiation Oncology also uses a multidisciplinary treatment approach which provides the best technology in this field to our patients. We provide CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Trilogy, TomoTherapy, Brachytherapy, and Xoft.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Cancer Registrar, working in collaboration with physicians, administrators, the cancer team and other departments, promotes quality patient care management by ensuring timely, accurate and complete data is incorporated and maintained on all types of cancers and certain benign conditions diagnosed and/or treated within the institution.  The Registrar serves as a valuable resource for cancer information, monitoring quality of care and clinical practice guidelines, assessing patterns of care and referrals and monitoring adverse outcomes.  The Registrar is involved in managing and analyzing clinical cancer information for the purposes of education, research and outcomes measurement.  The Registrar follows data collection, reporting and quality standards for compliance to state, federal and third party accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

(Already certified)

  • Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (6 total credit hours) or equivalent job experience
  • One year in a hospital or state cancer registry
  • Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C) by the National Cancer Registrars Association

(Certified Eligible)

  • Associate degree (60 college credits) or completion of/enrollment in National Cancer Registrars Association-Accredited Certificate Program
  • Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (6 total credit hours)
  • One year in a hospital or physician practice setting or 160-hour Clinical Practicum preparation for Certified Tumor Registrar exam
  • All employees in role must be eligible for the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) by the National Cancer Registrars Association (required)
  • If not already obtained, all new hires must obtain Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) within two years of hire (required)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

(Already certified)

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Two years of experience in a cancer registry.

(Certified Eligible)

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
