The position is responsible for monitoring, documenting, and notifying the appropriate persons of any suspicious, dangerous, unusual behaviors, and situations. The Video Monitoring Technician will also be responsible for calling emergency codes when the switchboard staff is unavailable and directly monitoring patients on units when needed due to technical issues. In addition to these duties the Lead Video Monitoring Technician will also assure appropriate interactions/communications concerning co-workers and patients, orient and assign station to team members, assure 3hour rotations in VMT room take place, assure all staff in VMT room sign confidentiality statements and update team members on changes through verbal communication from Manager/Director. The Lead Video Monitoring Technician will update communication book and staff meeting binders.
• Assumes personal responsibility for maintaining professional development and practice, any certification or credentialing, and education, as required.
• When directly monitoring patients on units, status according to patient monitoring standards, policies and procedures. This includes completion of vital signs, weight log, intake and output, dietary intake, behavioral rounds sheets (flackers)/Flowsheets, narrative logs and admission checklists or other progress or milieu notes. Reports patient complaints of pain or other concerns in a timely manner.
• When directly monitoring patients on unit, demonstrates proficiency and skill in providing care to patients; orienting to unit; transport; de-escalation; assistance with activities of daily living; response to codes; use of SCM techniques.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:
• Places patients on monitoring per doctor’s orders as phoned in by units.
• Observes the monitors continuously for behaviors indicated based on ordering MD’s precautions.
• Reports behaviors to nurse on unit for immediate interventions.
• Initiates calls to units each shift to obtain locations of patients being monitored and behaviors for which patients are being monitored.
• Notifies nurse, Risk department, and or manager as appropriate when quality concerns are present.
• Attends in-service educations/Healthstream modules to update skills and knowledge.
• Documents calls to units and seclusion/restraints events.
• Maintains open communication with co-workers.
• Demonstrated proficiency in orienting new team members and float staff working VMT
to:
• Policies regarding sexual acting out, suicide precautions and self-harm.
• Consents for VMT.
• Phone system.
• Change and arrange camera views to accommodate unit needs.
• Read and sign VMT specific confidentiality agreement.
• Complete VMT specific logs.
• Procedures to report abuse, concerns, safety risks.
• Discusses VMT room concerns with Manager/Director as they present.
• Relays information from Manager/Director to VMT staff and updates communication and staff meeting binders.
• ADT alarm monitoring system (new)
• Other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Healthcare Provider/Basic Life Support required.
Experience (required and preferred):
• 2 years of social services experience and 1yr in mental health direct patient care required.
• Able to complete Safe Crisis Management and perform Safe Crisis Management techniques, required.
