Location: 2020 Newburg Rd. Louisville, Kentucky 40205

Shift: Float/PRN

 

The primary functions of the phlebotomist are to work directly with the patients to obtaining lab specimens for analysis according to the physician’s order. Collections are performed within established guidelines according to safety and government regulations and ensuring specimens are processed in a timely manner upon receipt In the Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specimens for microscope examination using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Perform testing and reports test results in urinalysis, hematology, and chemistry.
  • Perform diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and /or monitoring of various disease states.
  • Call critical values to providers per policy.
  • Maintain instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
  • Makes decisions and takes action, considering the impact of various options when making decisions.
  • Supports and promotes the Infection Control and Safety Policies of the organization and the laboratory.
  • Supports core behaviors, standards, values, and missions, of the organization and accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Previous phlebotomy and specimen processing experience, as well as computer maintenance training is required.
  • Phlebotomy certificate and CPR training certification is preferred.
  • Two years phlebotomy experience required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to analyze test results for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in routine day-to day decisions.
  • Ability to communicate verbally/in writing with professionalism.
  • Ability to meet productivity expectations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Sedentary Work: Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying items as needed
  • Frequent Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Frequent Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds by the ear
  • Frequent Seeing: Visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, color vision
  • Consistent use of hand movement for keyboarding purposes
