About Us

UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center Downtown location has 44 chemo chairs, 11 private rooms and four beds to provide chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We treat all solid organ and hematologic cancers.  Our physicians are experts in specfic disease sites allowing them to better understand the challenges our patients face. Our patients are seen in a multi-disciplinary care model resulting in our patients normally being seen by multiple physicians on their first visit and possibly recieve an infusion the same day.  The innovation and reseach at the Brown Cancer is top notch with patients being offered clinicial research trials for new treatment modalies. Our cancer outreach program has allowed us to educate, screen and provide medical services in surrounding rural communities. 

We have a beautiful bone marrow cellular therapy (BCT) outpatient clinic with inpatient capaibilities in UoL Hospital.

Our onsite Radiation Oncology also uses a multidisciplinary treatment approach which provides the best technology in this field to our patients. We provide CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Trilogy, TomoTherapy, Brachytherapy, and Xoft.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Medical Oncology Nurse Clinician operates under a clinical case management model to provide care to adult and geriatric patients during all phases of their treatment. Duties are to provide and coordinate patient care, including: direct Medical Oncology clinics to provide for physician patient consultation, initiate processes to ensure labs and test are completed and checked in a timely fashion providing for accommodating schedules. The Nurse Clinician will schedule initial chemotherapies, provide for educational support for patients and their families to enhance family centered care outcomes and interact with triage to provide for an extension of clinical support. The Nurse Clinicians use nursing practice competencies to achieve safe, optimal care for patients and families.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN); must obtain or enroll in a BSN program within two (2) years of hire.
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification course provider card.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Two (2) years of oncology patient care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN and/or CBCN); must obtain within 1 year of eligibility.
