Job Summary
Performs a variety of tasks in support of the daily workflow of the ambulatory pharmacy department to include the appropriate distribution of drug therapy under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and in compliance with State and Federal Laws and in accordance with UMC policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assists pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to include (but not limited to):
- Preparing, filling and dispensing medication
- Screening phone calls/orders and alerting the pharmacist to patient-specific data
- Receives and enters pharmaceutical orders in system.
- Accurately obtains patient history information upon receipt of prescription including address, date of birth, phone number, drug allergies, disease states and third-party information.
- Packages and labels all products prepared or dispensed in accordance with pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Performs duties in documented accordance with requirements of all regulatory and governing bodies.
- Processes and fills all floor stock requisitions.
- Performs insurance billing and administrative support functions.
- Assists in procurement, receipt and proper storage of drugs and general supplies.
- Maintains appropriate stock levels within work area and routinely checks inventory for appropriate dating.
- Maintains inventory and distribution records of all drugs, including narcotics and investigational drugs, as required by law and in accordance with hospital policy.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Registered as a pharmacy technician with the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- PTCB national certification
- Certification not required for 2nd year pharmacy students and or licensed pharmacy interns
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail or hospital experience
