About the program:
The paid 6-month perioperative course at Jewish Hospital, offers nurses interested in a surgical career a standardized, evidence-based online curriculum, hands-on skills labs and a clinical practicum working side-by-side with perioperative nurse preceptors to develop new skills as well as experience the rewards that occur in our tertiary care facility (referral center/, hand trauma, transplant, innovative surgical interventions, endovascular and hybrid environments). Peer support, professional nurturing and continuous feedback will be provided throughout the experience.
The perioperative program is an opportunity to learn foundational skills that focus on patient safety, aseptic practice, sterilization processes and infection prevention techniques specific to the operating room environment. This is an opportunity to begin a new and rewarding chapter in your nursing career in a field working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers and other healthcare workers who have found their passion in surgical care.
The program is 40 hours per week with some variation for off shift and weekend training. On completion, the successful participant will launch their full time career!
About the unit:
Unique to the Jewish Hospital Surgical department is the combination of three surgical spaces offering an expansive list of specialty areas in which to practice: Jewish main operating room, the heart surgery unit and the outpatient care center which also includes the world-renowned hand care center. Surgical specialties that are performed in our 30 operating rooms include....(list above). Our dedicated and skilled staff take pride in offering excellent care to our patients, as well as their families.
