Responsibilities

About the PACU RN Training Program

The PACU RN Training Program is a structured eight-month educational program to support the new graduate and experienced RN orientation into the challenging specialty of postoperative nursing. This program is an evidence-based multi-modal curriculum embedded in the ASPAN standards to prepare nurses for the fast-paced PACU environment. Peer support and continuous feedback will be provided throughout the experience to help you grow your nursing skills while working side-by-side with trained preceptors and a transition to practice nurse educator. Participation in the full-time training program includes immersive observation experiences, competency-based classes, and specialized peri-anesthesia eLearning and simulation. Additionally, participants will build and gain experiences with preceptor-guided orientation experience throughout levels of care ranging from inpatient nursing (critical care and medical-surgical) and the entire scope of the peri-anesthesia areas including the preoperative and postoperative care units.

For newly licensed graduate nurses with less than 12 months of experience will also include engagement into our year-long CCNE accredited Nurse Residency Program.

After successful completion of the program, you will be offered a full-time position. Please note all the positions available for this program are full time. Shifts will rotate throughout training program, and available positions at the conclusion of the program may vary. PACU nurse positions have a weekend and holiday rotation and are required to take call after completion of the training program. For more information, contact Shelli Scott, BSN, RN, CAPA at shelli.scott@uoflhealth.org, or apply online at UofL health careers.
