Peace Hospital, part of UofL Health, is a private, non-profit behavioral health hospital. One of the largest behavioral health facilities in the nation, Peace Hospital is known for providing care for children, adolescents, adults and senior adults, age 55 and older. Our Kosair for Kids Children’s Peace Center is the largest and most comprehensive private provider of youth inpatient behavioral health services in the country treating children and adolescents with behavioral health and co-occurring disorders. We have a partial hospitalization program for school-aged children and an inpatient specialty program for children and adolescents who have complex treatment needs, such as intellectual or developmental disabilities accompanied by acute behavioral and psychiatric symptoms. UofL Health is home to over 14,000 team members, 1000+ providers, 200+ practice locations, 9 hospitals, and 4 medical centers.

Job Summary

The Staff Chaplain provides spiritual care throughout the hospital and in assigned clinical areas to diverse patients and their families as well as to hospital employees and the organization.

  • Assesses patients’ and families’ spiritual needs and resources and provides culturally sensitive spiritual care interventions accordingly.
  • Develops and documents a spiritual care plan that is integrated with the patient’s interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Provides crisis care and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Triages spiritual care referrals from physicians and hospital staff.
  • Documents all spiritual care encounters and interventions in the patient’s medical record.
  • Communicates spiritual care needs of patients and their families as a member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Collaborates supportively with physicians, hospital staff, and spiritual/religious leaders in the community in the care of patients and their families.
  • Provides spiritual care and emotional support to hospital employees individually or in group settings.
  • Performs or coordinates spiritual/religious rituals as requested and/or appropriate.
  • Participates in the Chaplaincy Services department’s educational programs for chaplain interns and chaplain residents.
  • Provides education about the relationship between spirituality/religion and health/illness to hospital staff and in the community as requested or assigned.
  • Participates in departmental and inter-departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Serves on hospital committees and in work groups as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

  • Master of Divinity degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required or a Masters level education recognized by certifying organizations.
  • Must be board certified or be eligible for board-certification through APC, NACC, or NAJC (and, if eligible, apply for board-certification within two years of hire).  
  • Four (4) ACPE accredited units of Clinical Pastoral Education are required.
  • Spiritual care experience post completion of CPE is preferred.
