Responsible for the coordination of the care and management of the transplant recipient. Must be able to function with considerable independence in the management of the transplant patient. Under the guidance of the Director/ Manager of Quality and Patient Safety, the Quality Improvement (QI) Coordinator supports system-wide improvement initiatives within the facility to ensure effective and timely quality Improvement activities within a designated body of work, function, or specific clinical service line. The QI Coordinator leads facility based evidence based Practice (EBP) Clinical Effectiveness teams using consistent standards and best practices to improve patient outcomes. The position utilizes trended quality data and analyzes to identify, design, plan and implement performance improvement initiatives in quality, safety and service measures. The role also promotes patient safety and participates in
concurrent and retrospective monitoring of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) and other priority quality and safety indicators. The QI Coordinator assists in maintaining a constant state of readiness around accreditation, regulatory preparation, including disease specific certification support.
The QI collects, assembles and maintains all pertinent information needed by the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program Data Management and QA departments. The QI must demonstrate the ability to collect, enter, store, analyze, and report large amounts of data within the time frames designated. The QI will assist department physicians, nurses, and laboratory personnel in the use of this data for research, regulatory, and accreditation purposes. The QI coordinates the completion of all reporting requirements for quality assurance for the BMT Program, the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), and the Foundation for the Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (FACT).
This position requires exceptional organizational and written/oral communication skills with frequent collaboration with other Hospital departments, BMT, BMTP Nurse Manager, BMT laboratory staff, physicians and clinical staff. Must be meticulous, self-motivated, and exhibit good judgment. This position works with confidential patient information, and it will be protected in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. The QI shall actively support the policies of the Blood & Marrow Transplant Program, the BMTP Laboratory, the Brown Cancer Center and University Hospital.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in the field of health sciences or biological sciences with training, education, or experience in either QM or cellular therapy. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in a healthcare setting. Experience in quality improvement principles, performance improvement methodology, project/data management and research preferred. Clinical knowledge and expertise in a clinical service line specialty is preferred. Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs, with specific abilities related to spreadsheets and graphs. Experience with spreadsheets, data bases, data entry strongly preferred. Experience in data analysis and presentation--ie: using power point, graphs, pie charts , and spreadsheets. Ability to use different search engines to evaluate evidence based best practices. Data analysis, aggregation, reporting/ display and trend and pattern analysis a plus
License & Certification: Nationally recognized quality-related certification preferred. Working knowledge of National Quality Forum (NQF), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Institutes for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) safety indicators, serious reporting events, safe medical practices, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures helpful.
