Overview

The Polysom Technologist performs and operates sleep study equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and with physician oversight to include polysomnography, Continuous Positive Airway pressure (CPAP) titration, Home Sleep Testing, and electroencephalography. Responsible for record keeping of patient files, faxing reports as needed, along with other clerical duties as needed. Cleans and prepares equipment for patient use.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Performs procedures to ensure quality patient care in accordance with Accrediting Body and Sleep physician expectations/protocols
  • Participates in hospital and department quality assurance programs to ensure safety and satisfaction
  • Contributes to the efficient operation and monitoring of the department and utilizes our resources efficiently
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of equipment within assigned area
  • Supports goals of department/organization. Works as a team player by enhancing team effectiveness, supporting, and assisting team members, the department and/or the organization
  • Maintains regulatory compliance and licensure for current position
  • Displays knowledge and complies with the National Patient Safety goals
  • Attends all UofL Health required educational programs as well as all KNOW modules
  • Uses standard precautions, PPE, at all times
  • Maintains professional development and education for technical competency
  • Supports and reports any identified compliance matters
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Sleep Technology or Completed the A-Step Sleep Program (preferred)

Experience:

  • Previous experience in EEG or Polysomnography (required)

 

Licensure:

  • Must have Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BPRT) prior to employment (required)

 

Certification:

  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to start of employment (required)
