Job Title: Medical Technologist- Bone & Tissue
Location: University Hospital
Shift Options: 1st shift Full Time Position requires 50% Blood Bank Bench Time & 50% Bone & Tissue
The technologist will coordinate the bone and tissue banking services for University and Jewish Hospitals. This includes managing all bone and tissue inventory, record keeping, and process control. They will gather monthly statistics, chair biannual meetings, participate in accreditation inspections and keep up to date on all changes to FDA, AABB and CAP standards. They are responsible for new procedure development, updating procedures and reviewing procedures per standards. The technologist shall have good communication skills and interact pleasantly and professionally with all co-workers, medical staff, patients, visitors and others. The technologist shall actively support the policies of the Laboratory and organization.
1. Coordinate the bone and tissue bank services at JH and ULH.
2. Gather utilization statistics for both facilities.
3. Inventory to check for missing or new products,
4. Interact with physicians and tissue representatives to coordinate ordering of products for scheduled surgeries.
5. Educate and guide support staff (BB technologists, OR staff, Supply staff) in receipt of tissue and inventory management.
6. Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained in all policies, processes, systems and procedures.
7. Schedule and chair biannual tissue meetings for multiple facilities.
8. Attend teleconferences and other related local continuing education opportunities and training. Participate in staff meetings.
9. Facilitate all bone and tissue recalls, lookbacks and outcomes in coordination with the Laboratory Medical Director and Risk Management.
10. Assist in Blood Bank audits as time permits.
11. Contribute to the efficient operation of the laboratory.
12. Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and competence.
Certifications: MT (ASCP), MT (AMT), MT (HEW), qualified as a technologist under CLIA rules, or equivalent. Individuals that are newly certified beginning January 2004 must participate in the BOR Certification Maintenance Program.
Education: Bachelor's degree (appropriate degree required to meet CLIA rules)
Experience: Two years of experience in laboratory medicine required.
