The Director for Respiratory Care in the Downtown campus for U of L Health is responsible for the administrative operation of all aspects of respiratory care applying leadership and managerial skills in planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring the operations of the designated departments to assure the highest quality patient care. Under the supervision of the VP Operations of the downtown campus, the Director is accountable for setting departmental goals, operational and capital budgets, managing and monitoring operations, leading and evaluating management/supervisory staff and working collaboratively with hospital departmental staff and physicians. The Director, in conjunction with facility leadership, develops policies and procedures, equipment standardization, contracting quality, service rationalization, and capital strategy for the downtown campus. This position will also work collaboratively with the medical group leadership to insure standardization of services where appropriate and consistency with use of standardized protocols. The Director will insure work quality of all staff and will maintain continuous quality performance improvement activities to validate competency. The Director will insure personnel competency through continuing education and annual competency testing. The Director may provide care to various patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
1. Plans for strategic, operational, and programmatic processes that direct the downtown campus, in accordance with customer needs, to achieve the campus mission.
2. Oversees the operations of all staff of the Respiratory/Cardiopulmonary section(s) for both ULH and Jewish to ensure, timely, quality work.
3. Responsible for the management of workflow in assigned in all respiratory departments to ensure the completion of work assignments.
4. Responsible for the implementation and support of continuous quality performance activities for respiratory/cardiopulmonary sections.
5. Oversees and directs the training and orientation of staff and students in the Department(s) to insure competency and to insure best practice in alignment with the strategic goals of the downtown campus. 6. Is responsible for the fiscal and budgetary management of the Department(s).
7. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and insures that all team members are compliant with competency specific to their area of responsibility.
8. Displays knowledge and complies with the National Patient Safety goals.
9. Supports and reports any identified compliance matters.
10. Maintains professional development and education for technical competency.
11. Maintains regulatory compliance and licensure for current position.
12. Attends all required educational programs as well as all Learn modules.
13. Contributes to the efficient operation and monitoring of the department and utilizes our resources efficiently.
14. Demonstrates complete working knowledge of equipment within assigned area.
15. Insures equipment is operating properly and resolves equipment problems as they arise.
16. Maintain adequate inventory of necessary supplies and equipment.
17. On-call responsibilities for problems during testing, callouts, patient problems, etc.
18. Identifies and monitors performance improvement activities and findings and corrective action.
19. Assist in preparing for accreditation and licensing and maintaining records appropriately for site visits.
20. Knowledge and performance of the Code of Conduct Standards.
21. Responsible for new product and equipment evaluations and purchasing in coordination with supply chain and/or Biomed departments.
22. Participates on the Respiratory Boards for the Respiratory Programs with clinical affiliations.
22. All other duties assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
• Respiratory Therapy Degree or other relevant Master level degree. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care required; Mandatory Certificate by the Commonwealth of Kentucky is required. BLS and ACLS required.
• Current certificates from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
Experience (required and preferred):
• Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in the discipline.
