Job Summary
The Director of Surgical Services will plan, direct, and evaluate the nursing care given to the patients of varying age groups during the designated hours of service. The Director utilizes leadership and management skills to support the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Hospital and the department of Surgical Services. The Director is responsible for administrative oversight, program development, marketing, fiscal and human resources management. The Director will contribute to the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy, core values, evidence-based practice, standards of care of the hospital and surgery department, adherence to accreditation and licensing agency standards, strategic planning, and the attainment of organizational goals.
• Provides direct line leadership to managers and employees that reflects the mission, vision, and philosophy of the hospital
• Develops, implements, and monitors policies, procedures, and protocols for the department which are consistent with regulatory and professional standards
• Develops, implements, and monitors a quality goal process within the department
• Ability to use professional judgment to balance quality and cost indicators in making resource utilization decisions
• Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring both capital and operational budgets for the department and operates within those budgetary guidelines under consultation with the Executive Director
• Develops departmental goals and objectives that are measurable and reports those goals quarterly or as necessary
• Supports and facilitates positive customer relations as an ongoing departmental goal
• Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent regulatory standards and leads the staff in adhering to those standards
• Appropriately makes patient care assignments according to staff expertise and relevant credentials and assumes responsibility for the operational functions of the unit
• Conducts staff meetings and facilitates active participation of staff members in shared governance of the department
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Administration or Health Administration (required)
• Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration or Health Administration (preferred)
Experience:
• Four years of surgical services experience as an RN (required)
• Two years of leadership experience in an acute care setting (required)
Licensure:
• Active unrestricted Kentucky Registered Nurse license or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
