Overview

The VP of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for the direction and management of quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience activities for the system, in support of the mission, goals, and objectives of UofL Health. The VP of Quality and Patient Safety will facilitate meaningful clinical engagement to achieve high quality and equitable outcomes, an outstanding experience for the patients and clinical teams, and high-value care. The VP of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for working collaboratively with the UofL Health leadership team to integrate quality efforts in concert with the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of clinical performance and service outcome measurements and oversight of those operations that are integral to meeting organizational quality and safety goals.

 

Responsibilities

1. In collaboration with the CMO and executive leadership at UofL Health, recommend strategic objectives for improving quality processes and outcomes, safety, experience and value that align with the health system’s strategic plan for patient centered care.
2. Plan and implement continuous improvement initiatives to achieve clinical and service excellence across the continuum that demonstrates an overall standard of high-quality outcomes as characterized by best practices, evidence-based guidelines and objectively measured against national benchmarks.
3. Establish indicators for monitoring and evaluating the quality, appropriateness and value of care; assess for continuous improvement in monitored indicators; and direct initiatives across the continuum of care.
4. Develop comprehensive, strategic and tactical plans to achieve system level progress in goal achievement annually and revise strategic plans accordingly.
5. Regularly communicates with ULH system leaders regarding initiatives that support the system’s Quality Safety, and Experience Plan, regulatory and accreditation compliance issues, compliance with state and federal statutes, and the use of evidence-based guidelines.
6. Provides effective leadership in the conduct of patient safety and adverse event investigations, including root cause analyses and the implementation of effective corrective action plans.
7. Promote the principles of high reliability to enable and sustain a culture of safety, organizational learning, and performance improvement.
8. Work with Department Chairs and Chiefs to utilize evidence-based medicine to reduce unnecessary variation to standardize care and reduce costs.
9. Regularly communicates quality and safety activities to the Medical Staff and engages the Medical Staff in quality and safety activities.
10. Provides operational direction and effective leadership of the Quality and Safety Office, including Infection Control and Prevention, Quality, Safety and Process Improvement, Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance, Medical Staff Office, and Patient Experience/Advocacy activities Community Engagement and Outreach, including Community Health Needs Assessment reporting.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or equivalent graduate degree.
Experience
• At least 7 years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility within a healthcare organization demonstrating leadership, strategic thinking and responsibility for operations as it relates to patient safety and clinical quality.
