Job Title: Lab Asst II  Blood Bank

 

We are Hiring at University Hospital

Location: 530 South Jackson St  Louisville KY 40202

Shift Options: 1st Shift  Full Time

 

The Laboratory Assistant II in the Blood Bank shall: have a sound knowledge of processing all types of specimens with attention to detail and accuracy; enter results into the Laboratory Computer System under the supervision of a Technologist; load patient specimens onto lab analyzers; perform analyzer maintenance; interact courteously and professionally with all customers; respect patient’s rights; actively support the policies of the Laboratory and Hospital.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs computer and clerical duties; related to specimen processing and referral lab testing; filing, scanning reports.
  2. Responsible for the receiving, processing and distribution of specimens. 
  3. Receives and logs in the blood, components and reagents,
  4. Thaws plasma and cryoprecipitate,
  5. Irradiates products,
  6. Documents maintenance of instruments/equipment and procedural calibrations,
  7. Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels to include ordering from blood supplier,
  8. Operates laboratory equipment such as refrigerators, freezers and centrifuges,
  9. Documents proper maintenance of instrumentation/equipment.
  10. Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as answering the telephone, collecting data and filing.
  11. Transferring blood components,
  12. Maintains equipment to ensure accurate, consistent results in the performance of tests,
  13. Follow standards of safety dictated by the laboratory, the hospital and regulatory agencies,
  14. Contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory,
  15. Participates in continuing education programs for the upgrade of educational experience and
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.

Qualifications

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): High school diploma or equivalent. Good clerical and computer skills are required.

 

Experience (required and preferred): Previous experience in laboratory specimen processing and phlebotomy.
