Overview

Assists System Director of Financial Planning and Analysis in providing financial accountability for UofL Health, budget and financial planning/forecasting.  Independently, performs various operations analytics duties throughout the month, including data querying, spreadsheet design and maintenance, trending and KPI monitoring.  Provides operational financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting, statistical and budgetary data; preparing reports.  Applies data analyses techniques and methodologies to actual and budgeted information, which includes work that is analytical, evaluative and advisory in nature, and that requires an understanding of the respective market's operating activities and services provided.  Performs operations data functions in areas that are generally more complex in nature and requires a more detailed understanding and application of operational data analytics techniques.  Performs duties independently delegates work to other team members and often provides leadership and guidance to other team members. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance on assigned projects, including independently providing material support for assigned projects by engaging appropriate stakeholders and subject matter experts, providing the required information/data and assisting in identifying opportunities, tracking results and replicating success.
  • Ensure the integration of financial planning tools among management teams for strategic, financial, operations, quality management and other management decision making processes and applications by facilitating the information exchange. Serves as a consultant on specific finance-related issues or day-to-day operations issues and provides notification of material issues impacting financial performance.
  • Will work directly with the Director of Financial Operations and Operational leadership to drill down to the most intimate of University of Louisville Hospital, Jewish Hospital, and Frazier Rehab. This work will be independent and will require learning and working with ancillary software such as Cerner and Surginet as well as the system used for Transplant.
  • Will also provide to the System Director of Financial Planning and Analysis “lessons learned” during the deeper drill downs and will provide suggestions on how those could benefit the other system facilities.
  • Assist Director with the development and implementation of the Market-wide capital and operating budget including assisting with managing all facets of the capital and operating budget processes and maintaining overall accountability for the successful execution in a manner sufficient to support the system's mission and financial goals.
  • Assist operating unit leaders with financial budgeting/forecasting strategy and analyzes trends and identify opportunities to align strategic direction with system financial goals.

Collaborate with operations leadership, to ensure completion and maintenance of annual operating budgets/ rolling forecasts meeting established deadlines and system parameters.  Analyzes variances from 

  • budgets/forecasts and communicates such to operations management. Makes recommendations to and partners with Market operations leaders to ensure financial targets are met and/or exceeded.
  • Prepare and review reports on financial performance. Investigate, analyze and present recommendations with respect to asset, liability, cost and revenue initiatives, including processes, re-engineering and detailed performance/financial/program reviews, to ensure stated financial goals are attained. 
  • Lead monthly operating reviews with operating unit leadership in accordance with system and/or site guidelines and offers training/education to address financial issues. Provide financial direction to operating units to assist them in achieving goals with remaining within established budget thresholds/parameters.

Mentors Financial Operations Analysts I & II by coordinating projects and assisting in staff development activities.

Qualifications

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, required. Master’s degree in Finance or related field, CPA or CMA preferred.

 

            Experience (required and preferred):

  • Minimum of three-years in accounting, finance or analytics. Healthcare and system experience preferred.
