About Us:

UofL Health is investing in the health of Bullitt County, and the surrounding area with an expansion of UofL Health – Medical Center South to become an inpatient hospital – UofL Health – South Hospital. South Hospital is expected to open in early 2024 and will add approximately 100,000 square feet of new space to the existing facility. South Hospital will include a 10-bed intensive care unit, medical/surgical patient rooms, six operating rooms, new cardiac catheterization lab, expanded emergency department, centralized sterile processing area, laboratory, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary, respiratory therapy and more.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Chest Pain Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all clinical efforts toward ensuring that Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare are meeting the standards of compliance to maintain primary Chest Pain certification. This individual works to establish and ensure best practices for care of cardiac patients in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director of the Chest Pain program, physicians, and the team members at JHSMH. This position is also responsible for coordination of interdepartmental functions to ensure smooth and effective operations. This position is required to demonstrate the following skills:

Assist in developing nursing policy, procedure, and practices of care that relate directly to the Chest Pain Accreditation in collaboration with the Chest Pain Medical Director and the Cardiovascular Service line team.

  • Reviews current policy, procedure, practices of care related to Chest Pain program annually.
  • Works in conjunction with the practice committee to develop and revise chest pain program policies.
  • Reviews most up to date information related to ACS and treatment via literature searches, internet, library, etc. Uses this information to develop the program and policies.
  • Ensures policies are forwarded to the appropriate committees, individuals for review.

Monitor, develop, and coordinate appropriate education for team members caring for ACS patients at all facilities (medical, nursing, support personnel, etc).

  • Conducts an educational needs assessment to identify educational needs related to ACS care.
  • Conducts quality monitors on a monthly basis to determine educational needs in relation to ACS care.
  • Works in conjunction with the education department to develop and revise ACS education and competency annually (ED, Med/Surg, Critical Care, Intermediate areas at all JH facilities).
  • Ensure team members receive education on standards that must be met for Chest Pain certification.

Develop and coordinate education for the patient and families, and community.

  • Develop and ensure system implementation of patient education protocol for all ACS patients.
  • Meet with the patient and family to ensure all questions and concerns are addressed as well as realistic goals and timeframes are outlined if issues are identified.
  • Participates in community education fairs and events related to ACS Risk Factors.

Develop and maintain effective communication between all units caring for ACS patients

(ED, Cath Labs, Recovery Room, Critical Care, Intermediate, Med/Surg, and Rehab) and the Cardiology physicians.

  • Complete interdisciplinary patient rounds to determine care needs and ensure appropriate level of care.
  • Consult with nursing staff and other disciplines to answer questions and identify patient care issues.
  • Chair STEMI Network and actively participate in committees related to ACS.
  • Ensure all information related to the Chest Pain program, protocols, procedures, etc is communicated to stakeholders in the JHSMH team.

Maintains professional development and education.

  • Attends continuing education to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Actively participates in self-appraisal annually.
  • Reviews literature and keeps current on best practices in cardiac care.
  • Establishes and meets annual goals which are developed for individual growth.
  • Successfully completes nursing competency.
  • Completes all mandatory programs as required.

Maintains confidentiality of information of the department.

  • Maintains confidentiality of departmental information according to established procedures with no reported errors.
  • Identifies own goals for personal and professional growth at least annually.

Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.

  • Completes special projects as assigned according to established time frames.
  • Prepares and maintains reports of results as requested.
  • Identifies and reports equipment problems which require maintenance or repair.
  • Facilitates the efficient operation of the department by answering the telephone and assisting callers or visitors in any way possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Kentucky RN license.
  • BLS required
  • NIHSS must be obtained within 6 months of employment or transfer
  • ACLS must be obtained within 1 year of employment or transfer
  • BSN required within one year, 

 

Preferred Quaifications:

  • Two years’ experience in an environment commensurate with the practice setting and programmatic needs of the cardiac patient population. 
  • Demonstrates effective physician relations, communication skills, and organizational cardiac skills.
  • CCRN, CNRN, and CCEN
