Overview

 
The Instructional Design Manager oversees the effective design and implementation of learning and development. They lead a team of Learning and Development Program Managers and collaborate with system wide clinical and non-clinical educators, subject matter experts, the LMS administrator, and learning and development facilitators to ensure the highest quality of content and instruction. The team develops new and redesigns existing learning programs and courses to meet learning standards and maintain and assign learning in the learning management system.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and manages learning content, coaches leaders, and facilitates learning experiences using validated methods of design and instruction such as ADDIE, The Understanding by Design Framework, and The Continuous Improvement Model.  

  • Ensures system-level standards/goals alignment, curriculum mapping, and program development and management.

  • Partners with internal departments such as Compliance, Corporate Risk & Audit Services to ensure the development and distribution of system learning required by The Joint Commission and other legal, ethical, and accrediting bodies for standards compliance.

  • Leads a team of professionals to develop and execute learning and development programs and initiatives for the organization.

  • Serves as subject matter expert for instructional design and quality standards for learning and development.

  • Contributes expertise to the organizational structure of governance for learning and development.

  • Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical system leaders to plan and execute the annual learning calendar for UofL Health.

  • Partners with UofL Health’s LMS administrator to ensure learning technology platforms meet organizational and departmental educational needs.

  • Liaises with external subject matter experts, such as the University of Louisville, to develop learning activities for UofL Health.

  • Facilitates classes within the Instructional Design Manager’s expertise, as needed.

  • Flexibly adapts instruction to meet learning objectives of the participants. 

  • Analyzes and compares qualitative and quantitative data from various sources and use data-driven decision making to improve learning opportunities for employees and evaluate program effectiveness.  Based on findings generates reports and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership.

  • Effectively communicates upcoming programs and schedules using various media, in collaboration with the Organizational Design Program Manager and the Marketing Department.

Other Functions:

  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

  • Works closely with all members of the OD Team to support initiatives related to learning and development.

  • Complies with security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

(Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, healthcare administration, human resources development, or other related degree (required).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-years in instructional design, learning and development, facilitation and/or training required.

  • Experience in project/program management required.

  • Experience with using Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS), and other design software and tools to develop and deliver learning.

  • Proven work experience as a team leader or supervisor.

  • Familiar with instructional design best practices.

  • Competent at facilitating learning and development opportunities in both online and face to face formats.

  • Experience facilitating leadership level learning and development.

  • Can equally listen, engage, empathize, and connect with others (of all levels and backgrounds).

  • Ability to multi-task well and handle multiple interruptions throughout the day, while still maintaining a positive, productive attitude.

  • Possess cultural competency skills – ability to competently work with people from various cultures.

  • Must project a professional company image through in-person and phone interactions at all times.

 

Language Ability:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Flexibility to adjust and problem-solve in real time to overcome challenges and ensure the success of projects and learning experiences.

Computer Skills:

  • Technologically savvy, and proficient with MS Office and other administrative tools.

  • HR and Learning Management Systems experience:  Workday, HealthStream, etc.

  • Course development software (Articulate)
