Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist(s) on duty, performs technical and manipulative tasks required to receive, prioritize, record, process, fill, deliver, and bill medication orders and stock requisitions, inclusive of those which require the preparation of IV admixtures or other sterile products. Assists in the procurement, receipt and proper storage of drugs and general supplies. Interacts frequently with patients, visitors, hospital staff, physicians and/or vendor representatives. Maintains appearance and integrity of work area. Demonstrates competence to provide aspects of pharmaceutical care for neonatal (birth-discharge), pediatric (birth-11 years), adolescent (12-18), adult (19-65), and geriatric (66-over) patients.
Education & Training: High School diploma or GED required.
Experience: One year of hospital IV or long term care IV experience required.
License & Certification: Current CPhT certificate required by PTCB or NHA. Kentucky Pharmacy Technician registration required with the KY Board of Pharmacy. Must be able to pass the University of Louisville Hospital IV Competency exams and training within 6 months of taking this position.
