  • Overview

    Peer Review Coordinator coordinates the medical staff peer review process consistent with guidelines set forth by the ULH medical staff and regulatory agencies; assists with physician performance improvement initiatives, coordinates clinical and non-clinical performance improvement according to regulatory standards and organizational goals.

    Responsibilities

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Under the direction of the Executive Director Quality and Safety, coordinates the medical staff peer review process which entails the review of medical records, and data collection aggregation and analysis.
    • Reviews, analyzes and summarizes medical records for use in the medical staff peer review process.
    • Assists with preparation of monthly Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) reports.
    • Attends Medical Staff Peer Review meetings and serves as a liaison between various committees to facilitate communication and referral of cases for further physician review, and report results back to referring committee.
    • Oversees physician peer review data is entered in the appropriate database in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Maintains knowledge of The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requirements pertaining to the medical staff peer review process.
    • Assists with preparation of quarterly peer review reports that are reported up to appropriate ULH committees.
    • Maintains knowledge of the ULH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies.
    • Provides support and assistance to other hospital departments as necessary to facilitate the peer review process by coordinating cases referred for medical staff peer review.
    • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all ULH policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
    • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursingrequired
    • Minimum six (5) years of acute care, hospital-based clinical experience in area of intended practice
    • Previous experience in academic teaching hospital preferred
    • Current/Active RN License

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requirements pertaining to the medical staff peer review process
    • Must possess the ability to coordinate multiple projects required
    • Excellent verbal and written skills including formal presentation and training skills
    • Must be able to work with people in a tactful, diplomatic manner
    • Possesses good judgment and discretion with both internal and external customers and regulatory agencies
    • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
