  • Overview

    The Volunteer Services Coordinator handles all logistical aspects of the Volunteer Services Department.

    This role is responsible for positioning the organization’s volunteer program in five key areas:

    • Talent pipeline development
    • Patient satisfaction
    • Performance improvement
    • Employee satisfaction
    • Community ambassadors

    This position includes:

    1. Orienting new volunteers to the organization.
    2. Placing volunteers in departments by working with department leaders and ensure that volunteers are a good fit.
    3. Managing volunteer schedules and handling volunteer issues.
    4. Recruiting volunteers actively through community events during the year.
    5. Creating volunteer partnering opportunities within our community.
    6. Work with the University of Louisville to coordinate student volunteers.
    7. Developing and meeting the Needs of University of Louisville Physicians group and the Novak Center as defined by its senior leadership.
    8. Shall oversee that this program meets the requirements outlines by CMS and The Joint Commission and any other State regulatory agencies.

    The Volunteer Services Coordinator also handles all clerical needs within the department.


    1. Maintains extensive positive contact with patients, families, staff, volunteers, visitors and physicians and interacts with them in a way that is perceived as courteous, helpful and pleasant.
    2. Handles all logistical aspects of the Volunteer Services Department. This includes orienting new volunteers to the organization; placing volunteers in departments; working with department leaders to ensure that volunteers are a good fit; managing volunteer schedules and handling volunteer issues.
    3. Is responsible for actively recruiting volunteers through community events during the year; should take an initiative in looking for recruitment opportunities.
    4. Handles working with the various schools and their volunteer work programs.
    5. Coordinates and schedules all meetings, conferences, appointments and use of facilities for the Volunteer Services Department in a timely manner.
    6. Keeps track of supplies for office and places orders for them in a timely manner.
    7. Respects and maintains confidentiality concerning patients, families, physicians, staff and volunteers.
    8. Demonstrates creativity and contributes ideas/ suggestions for the development of the Volunteer Services Department.
    9. Demonstrates decisiveness in times of crisis.
    10. Participates in identifying and resolving operational, service and quality problems which enhance the service to internal and external customers and keeps supervisor informed of potential or actual concerns.
    11. Seeks ways to provide the quality service to internal customers.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned.



    EDUCATION & TRAINING: High school diploma.


    EXPERIENCE: At least three years of healthcare or similar experience. Participated as a volunteer for at least 2 years for a sizable organization. Supervisory experience preferred or have led a volunteer services program would be desired.
