Job Summary
The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the OR staff has correct, fully functional, sterile instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The SPD Tech will display resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism while adhering to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation per Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Associates of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), and CDC guidelines.
The nurse extern will gain experience in a realistic professional nursing work environment by assisting in the delivery of both direct and indirect nursing care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse within the scope of practice of unlicensed, assistive personnel.

Job Summary
The Phlebotomist shall have a thorough knowledge and proficiency in techniques of blood collection. The Phlebotomist shall be responsible for appropriate clerical and computer documentation associated with specimen collection requirements.
Responsibilities
- Performs phlebotomy procedures accurately and within established turn-around times.
- Recognizes abnormal, unexpected situations and investigates prior to delivering specimen to the testing area.
- Transports specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner.
- Answers phone calls and provides information in a courteous and professional manner.
- Monitors specimen integrity.
- Enters patient orders accurately in Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Assures documentation for medical necessity.
- Follow standards of safety dictated by the laboratory, the hospital, and regulatory agencies.
- Contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory.
- Participates in continuing education programs for the upgrade of educational experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification through American Heart Association

The clinical laboratory assistant shall be responsible for the proper collection and accessioning of all specimens received in the Pathology department.
Responsibilities
- Performs clerical duties including accessioning information into computers, filing reports and slides, answering phones, and distribution of reports.
- Performs billing of certain test procedures.
- Operates and maintains staining/cover slipping and some equipment in cytology and frozen section room.
- Monitors quality assurance on area of assistance.
- Receives and sends out specimens for consultations.
- Performs embedding of non-complex tissue in histology lab.
- Distributes slides to residents and pathologists.
- Retrieves specimens for pathology.
- Works with others in a professional and courteous manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or equivalent

- Experience with good clerical skills, computer skills and medical terminology preferred.
