They will interact pleasantly and professionally with all co-workers, medical staff, patients, visitors, and UL faculty and staff.  The employee shall actively support the policies of the Laboratory and hospital   Responsibilities - Performs clerical duties including answering the telephone and screening calls; maintaining logs for various department functions such as open positions, applications, lockers, keys, audit trails, evaluations, attendance, section minutes, and procedure manuals; routing mail; and arranging meetings and catering as indicated or requested by the Laboratory staff. - Maintains copier and fax machines, including placing service calls and making arrangements with other departments to cover downtime. - Answers phone calls and provides information in a courteous and professional manner. - Routes orders, bills, and invoices to appropriate departments. - Maintains employee personnel files and education records, ensuring files are neat and complete and that education is documented in a timely manner. - Greets and directs customers to appropriate staff. - Maintains office supply inventory. - Attends meetings, taking minutes as requested. Submits minutes within 5 working days of meeting. The MLS shall comply with standards and accrediting bodies including but not limited to AABB, CAP, CLIA, FDA, and Joint Commission.   Responsibilities - Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, acceptability, processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result according to departmental SOPs. - Follow department’s procedure in reporting STATS or critical results to providers. - Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. - Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. - Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed. - Make sure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates. - Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. - Follow accrediting agency standards CAP, AABB, FDA, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines. - Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. - Participate in all applicable safety training sessions. Know the location and contents of the safety manual. In collaboration with patients and families (as defined by the patient) the Clinical Assistant is responsible for the care of the patient. The Clinical Assistant adheres to and is supportive of the hospital and the department of Nursing mission and philosophy.
