The MERIT nurse responds to and leads clinical bedside emergencies throughout the campus. Partner with the Resource Intensivist or designee to optimize code response in terms of efficiency and to decrease incidence of inpatient hospital mortality. Leads debriefing with staff after a code is called. Mentors staff needing guidance in nursing care related to ACLS and the first five minutes. Provides follow up with patients transferred out of the ICU to reduce unplanned returns to the ICU. The MERIT nurse also streamlines the post-mortem process. The MERIT nurse may complete various audits of unit practices and compliance measures. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of nursing practice.

The Infection Preventionist (RN), under the direction of the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and the hospital epidemiologist, will perform ongoing surveillance and epidemiologic review of patients, employees, and the environment. Surveillance is done to identify areas of risk and develop evidence based strategies to prevent the development of hospital acquired infection. These strategies include staff and physician in-services as well as educational tool development. The IP will work collaboratively with the data support specialist and the Director to coordinate data collection and analysis and will assist in the overall risk assessment of the inpatient and outpatient population. The IP will also provide support in implementation of guidelines, policies and initiatives. The IP will adhere to reporting standards as set forth by CMS and CDC and will enter data into NHSN. The IP will work with the local and state health dept to identify trends in reportable diseases and will report such diseases according to 902 KAR 2020. Additional responsibilities involve methods designed to improve staff compliance with infection prevention strategies. There are no direct patient care responsibilities.   The Infection Preventionist (RN) will be skilled in data collection and analysis and will possess efficient computer skills. The IP will be available for flexible scheduling particularly during the influenza immunization initiative and other education related events.
