The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the OR staff has correct, fully functional, sterile instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The SPD Tech will display resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism while adhering to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation per Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Associates of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), and CDC guidelines.

The Mental Health Tech (MHT) participates in the delivery of patient care to the psychiatric patient in crisis, under the supervision of an RN. The MHT will assist in providing, monitoring, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. Other responsibilities include specimen collection, activities of daily living, behavioral management, crisis intervention, and implementation of patient treatment in accordance with physician orders, RN directives, hospital and unit specific policies and procedures, and defined standards of patient care and clinical practice. 9 East is a 25-bed ortho/neuro trauma unit. This unit cares for trauma patients who had surgery to stabilize broken bones from an injury along with trauma downgrades from the intensive care units. Patients for this unit typically came from the Emergency Room, Surgery and intensive care units. Pre operative and post operative nursing care is common on this unit. This unit is comprised of private and semi-private patient rooms.
