The Educator II works collaboratively within the Nursing Education to create and facilitate clinical education programs, competence initiatives and professional development activities to support both nursing and clinical practice across Mary & Elizabeth, improving the quality of patient care and nursing practice with resultant improved patient outcomes. This Educator II is responsive to evolving educational needs across the system. This educator serves as a clinical expert, proficient educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, leader and interdisciplinary collaborator in specific area of responsibility across Mary & Elizabeth. This Educator II identifies, develops and delivers educational programs for both individuals and groups in both clinical, classroom, and virtual settings. The Educator II fosters empowerment of clinical staff by providing clinical instruction and support to assure clinical competency of staff and safe, effective delivery of patient care, incorporating evidence-based practice (EBP), nursing research, and appropriate skill set standards and recommended practices. This Educator II actively participates in quality improvement (QI), EBP, and nursing research processes across the system. The position supports core behaviors, standards, values, and missions of UofL Health, accrediting bodies, and the profession of Nursing as a professional role model. The Educator II also serves as a resource to the community by promoting community outreach, healthcare awareness, and educational opportunities. The Educator II works with area Schools of Nursing to support nursing clinical rotations at Mary & Elizabeth.

Provides nursing care according to the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluating. Implements appropriate nursing care interventions. Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established nursing policies and procedures. Deliver care based on defined standards of patient care and nursing evidence-based practice.
The nurse navigator functions on a multidisciplinary team as an advocate, educator, and communicator for the oncology patient and their families. The navigator ensures that all patients with an oncology diagnosis receives quality care and comprehensive services within the respective disciplines. Educates patients and families about disease process, treatment options, and potential side effects. He/she will coordinate patients through the continuum of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. He/she will serve as the liaison between disciplines and any supportive/community services. He/she will provide leadership within the team, proactively develop processes that streamline and improve the clinical experience for both the patient and referring physicians. He/she will work closely with marketing and outreach departments to educate referring physicians and facilities on available services, prevention, screening/detection and treatment programs. He/she will be involved in coordinating weekly conferences and database tracking analysis for treatment outcome purposes. He/she will utilize protocols to refer patients to appropriate specialists and enrollment in clinical trials. Educates patients and families the transition to Survivorship and the program available at the BCC. Sets expectations for the post-treatment transition and remain available to patients and families for questions after completion of treatment. He/she will demonstrate the knowledge, skill and coordination to provide the care and guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship. Assists patients with end of life decisions.

Under the direction of the Director, Care Coordination, the Case Manager performs activities which support the Case Management/Utilization Management function.
